The Wizard of Clarks Toney StarksThis review is late in coming but I cannot stop listening to Ghostdini Wizard of Poetry. Something about the samples and guest artists mixed in with Ghostface’s tales of hitting on pretty pregnant women makes this thing work. My favorite track of the 14 or so hits is a song called Paragraphs of Love featuring Vaughn Anthony (John Legend’s brother) and Estelle (of American Boy fame). In this particular song, Ghost runs into a pregnant woman and it is love at first sight, strange right? that’s what you think until you hear him pour his heart out to her as Vaughn and Estelle coo in the background. The album is pure magic and I find the title very appropriate based on this, Ghostdini the wiz knows how to pick his R&B and his formula for mixing hip hop into it is pure mastery.

Paragraphs of Love is the Dragon's new theme songThe standard formula for Hip Hop / R&B has been a horrible collaberation (in my opinion) of I go, you go, I go, etc. and the rappers verse normally clashes with the singing versus complimenting it. This is why Method Man’s collab with Mary J. Blige became legendary because it didn’t follow the standard and should have set a precedence for this type of mix – it didn’t. When I heard Ghostface’s post prison album “The Pretty Toney Album” I was shocked, the man found a way to combine the classic hits of groups like Earth, Wind and Fire, The Chilites and other afroed, sweet voiced players of our parents age with his hardcore lyrics about escaping cops, tossing your cracks and packing your heat. How did he do it? Who knows but The Pretty Toney Album was received really well even by cynics of R&B such as myself. That being said, when I heard that the man was working on an R&B album I didn’t expect anything less than the best, I was right.

The album maintains the Ghostface grit, detailing sexual acts, catching guys sleeping with his girl and kicking game to hood chicks. The only song I couldn’t play was I’ll Be That since it offered the same sound that has been overplayed on the radio since way back when. She’s a Killah is a certified hit also and the album as a whole is solid, check it out if you are in the need for something new to listen to. Here are a couple videos of the songs I mentioned, hopefully you will like it as much as I do. It has steady rotation in the deck, good job Ghost.

I love Estelle’s voice, she is a necessity on this song along with every other element. Simply awesome. Also checkout an official video at:

Oh no problem, I wanted to write this a while ago but never got around to it. I remember you digging the Pretty Toney too so I’m not sure why I didn’t mention this album to you.
