Yoyo dieting is easy to call out but everyone seems to ignore the fact that people yoyo workout probably more than they do the dieting. The reason for this is due to two things, 1. A lack of education when it comes to your body and how it works and 2. The workout excitement wave being fun to ride but hard to maintain. In this article we are going to touch on the second point about the wave.
I recall the first time I saw that P90X infomercial I rolled my eyes. Not out of hate for the inventor or for the program itself, but because I knew, like Tae-Bo before it, I would be hearing forever the screams of joy from the non-workout people, as they take the DVD set as their path to instant glory. It’s a familiar trend that occurs whenever someone introduces a new and exciting program for training. Everyone buys into it and in turn urge their family and friends to get on-board – which they do. The problem with programs like Tae-Bo and P90X is that after you have burnt through the DVD’s and have memorized every cadence, every repetition, and every exercise, you will get bored. Now for a seasoned trainer, the programs may represent a brief change in the routine so when it’s over they shelve them and return to their regular programs. For the average Joe, once the P90X gets boring, they return to being average Joe.
It’s a cycle that works out well for the Billy Blanks of the world because they train often, have the physiques to show from years of dedication so selling you a dream becomes easy. You see the infomercials, you see people who have accepted fitness as a lifestyle and your mind automatically tricks you that “the program” is what got them to look the way they look. Wake up my friends and make a conscious decision now, if you are serious about your physique then you will accept fitness as a lifelong habit. You will make a decision to change your eating regimen, in both makeup and quantity, you will make the gym a regular occurrence just like sleeping and eating. You will stop looking at fitness as a fun activity to do for a portion of the year just to brag about your regimen on Facebook and look good for the summer. And you will use these money grabbing workout programs as mere change-ups to your already daily routine.
If this doesn’t sound feasible to you then you will fall into the trap of yoyo workouts and yoyo dieting, your body will not listen and you will never ever look as good as those guys tugging the Bowflex on television. Educate yourself, read more and get yourself a trainer then pick his brain. Working out is like graphic design, everyone thinks it’s common sense and that they can do it, but for the people who are good at it and have put their time in, your craft will look like a joke. Get serious about your body and do things the right way. Stop posting about how many push-ups you did yesterday and make fitness a lifestyle.
