daddy issues Daddy Issues And Relationships

Editor’s Note: I had to repost this article here at the Hall from The Marksman due to the importance of a woman’s father in the way that she treats you (the man) in your relationship. A woman’s father can make your relationship heaven or hell without him even knowing who you are. there have been studies on this phenomenon and all roads lead to a woman’s father being the scale for which she judges other men who will enter her adult life. Scary, I know.

A common theme today is people having issues with their family, and we will address both sides of the coin in separate articles.  This one will focus on women who have issues with their fathers, we have all seen or know people like this.  It materializes when she appears to be seeking attention from men in order to compensate for the attention she may not have received from her father. When we talk about her father issues, we’re generally talking about things like being overly flirty or promiscuous, even a tendency toward exhibitionism, and some emotional hang-ups.

We have to be careful not to generalize these issues with their father incorrectly; they may actually be the result of a failed relationship with a man that caused the behavior.  Ultimately, there are several behaviors you might encounter in a woman that you need to be aware of, and the best ways to handle them.

One of the most common signs that a woman has issues with her father is when women are labeled as “clingy” or “needy”, these women typically crave attention from the men they are with.  Every woman wants care and assurance from her partner and, of course, women want to spend quality time with their men.  That is a perfectly reasonable expectation, but a woman who has issues with their father typically will want those things in excess.

They may get upset when you make plans without her, or give you a hard time when you go to watch football with your friends on Sundays.  The most important thing here is to not give in to this behavior, set boundaries and maintain your relationships with friend and activities you enjoy that keeps the relationship healthy.  If you do not do that, and start to spend every waking moment with her because she needs that comfort, you will grow to resent her and the relationship will fail.

“I once dated a woman whose father was an alcoholic; she would go ballistic if I ordered alcohol when we were out together.  The entire time we were dating she forbid me from drinking alcohol because she feared I would somehow turn out like her father.  We broke up over that, I just could not deal with it anymore” – Tony 28, Orlando, Florida”

A woman’s relationship with her father always affects her romantic relationships. If her dad failed to show her love and affection, she might grow up expecting the worst from men. If you find her blowing up over minor screw-ups, it might be because your mistake reminds her of her father’s poor parenting.

The key in these situations is to make your partner aware of these unfair comparisons. You are not her father, for better or worse. You can only be yourself; show her the reliable, attentive and caring guy you are, and eventually she’ll stop blaming you for the mistakes committed by someone else.

Determining if a woman has father issues is very difficult, and there will be times where you are incorrect.  There are many other issues that your woman may be displaying that are not a result of issues with her father, you have to know her well enough to determine what those problems stem from.  But, there are enough women with father issues out there that you will run into it at some point, so it is best to be aware of them and have a plan for how to deal with the situation.
