chunli Gamers are done with HollywoodQuoted from Jon on my.spill.com’s Street Fighter The Legend of Chun Li review…

“FUCK movies based on video games 4 life!!!
let’s face it: video games ROCK, movies based on video games BLOW
damn YOU HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!”

Sadly, his words echo the sentiment of nerds all over the internet… we’ve had enough.

Well it goes without saying that blog after blog after blog that I visit all echo the same sentiment. Those who have seen Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li have had enough with Hollywood and Video Games. What the powers that be do not seem to grasp is that campy doesn’t work, realism doesn’t work and originality doesn’t work unless you have a writer and staff who have played the game and are passionate about it.

Examples of passion overcoming budget can be seen with fan-made versions of Star Wars, video games and comic book movies on Youtube. Some of them are ugly (no budget) yes but quite a number of them turn out to be pretty good stuff. The direction should have probably went the way of the original Mortal Kombat, where love it or hate it, you must agree that they stuck to the script (video gamers could recognize and identify with the onscreen characters) and it delivered in the action department.

From what I am hearing Street Fighter: The legend of Chun Li failed in acting, visuals, action and relativity to the game. Why then should anyone watch and support it? Its strange how the comic book to live action formula works but somehow the anime and video game transitions continue to fail. Why is this? Well it is what it is, from now on as fans we should probably research the director and writer of any upcoming video game movie to decide whether to watch it or not.

Next potential failure? Dragon Ball Evolution… woot!
