Say what you will about Wyclef Jean, his actions in calming the citizens of Port-au-Prince after being denied his candidacy for president of Haiti is worthy of accolades. Many of us were impressed by Wyclef’s bid for the position after knowing his lengthy dedication to being an ambassador for Haiti and spending his own money, time and resources for the betterment of it’s people. If this is new to you readers then I would urge you to do some research into his dedication outside of his career as a multi-talented musician, rapper and founder of The Fugees. Long story short, if there was someone to be a likely candidate as president of Haiti, it would be Wyclef.
What exactly happened?
After receiving multiple death threats from Haitians opposed to his running for President, Wyclef Jean hid out silently in Port-au-Prince. In support of their beloved Wyclef, the people of Port-au-Prince threatened to riot if anything was done to restrict Wyclef’s run. While understandable, a riot of that magnitude is the last thing that Haiti (still recovering from an earthquale that took over 200,000 lives) needed. As it turns out however the threat was ignored and Haiti’s Provisional and Electoral Council denied Wyclef’s candidacy to run for president.
The way how rappers have painted themselves in the public’s eye as angry, unintelligent and misogynistic gangsters, one would expect Wyclef to issue a Coup on the electorate and “take” the reins. Instead he displayed poise and diplomacy by quelling the mob with a statement: “Though I disagree with the CEP’s ruling, I respectfully accept the committee’s final decision, and I urge my supporters to do the same. We must all honor the memory of those we’ve lost – whether in the earthquake or at any time – by responding peacefully and responsibly to this disappointment.”
Wyclef in these last few years of exposure and in this diplomatic display of maturity, exemplifies the things that we define as a “man”. While this may be a stumbling blocvk in his continued efforts to help his home country, I am more than sure that there will be big things coming for him in the near future. Wyclef can try again for Presidency in 2015.

Here! Here! Knowing that true democracy necessitates the position of leadership to be greater than the man himself, vs. the greed that has been demonstrated by past selfish head of states in Haiti and other deprived nations, Wyclef”s nationalistic passion would be a shock wave of about 9.9 on the richter scale of morality.
Considering he has always been moved by a love for his people to give and give back without expecting recompensation, his bwell of prosperity will continue to overflow to enable his continued acts of service without the shackles of politics. ‘Clef can do more for Haiti alive than dead! Se pase!!!
