woman loving man

Think being a man means forgoing the pleasures (and pains) of beautification? Think again. Many men are indulging in a number of treatments typically considered to be in the female domain. From the basics like manicures and pedicures (men are advised to use clear polish), to the more specific like skin treatments, there is no reason to think being a man means living without the comforts of cosmetic pleasures. In the last year alone more than one million men had a cosmetic dermatology procedure. Here are five great dermatology procedures offered for men:

Botox, Restalyne, and other fillers

Men get wrinkles, too. And though some men can wear age well, others may yearn for the days of their youth. You may never get the chance to be 17 again, but with a few Botox injections you might look pretty darn close to it. Worried about getting too much and looking like a Hollywood procedure gone wrong? It is definitely something to worry about but if you work with a good doctor and limit your injections, you should be able to restore your youthful glow without losing the ability to raise your eyebrows.

Chemical peels

There are all sorts of treatments out there to give your skin a healthier, smoother and more evenly toned look. Chemical peels sound scarier than they really are. By peeling off the skin’s outermost layer, the treatment can get rid of brown spots, acne, and fine lines. For best results, you’ll probably need a series of 4-6 treatments, administered bimonthly.

Microdermabrasion

If a chemical peel doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, try a microdermabrasion to freshen and smoothen your skin. Using a spray of fine minerals, the treatment can reduce or entirely eliminate signs of aging like spots and uneven tones. Five treatments with two weeks in between each is usually the right way to start.

Skin Rejuvenation

One of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments is Fraxel, which was even featured on The Today Show. Fraxel can improve your skin’s texture, the size of your pores, and even reduce acne scarring. It will also decrease unwanted brown spots and isn’t limited to just your face – you can also treat your neck, chest and hands.

Laser Hair Removal

Another treatment typically associated with women, laser hair removal can be used on men too. Maybe you have some overgrown eyebrows or your sideburns are patchier than you’d like them to be. Laser hair removal uses a beam of light to destroy the hair follicle. It is best for clients with dark hair and light skin, but it works for most people. It requires a series of treatments, but once you’re done you will never have to pluck that pesky unibrow again! (Yes, it does hurt a little, but you’re a man – you can take it.)

These are just a few examples of what your dermatologist can offer you to make you look and feel better than ever. If none of these meets your needs but you want to find something that does, just call your dermatologist and set up an appointment. With technology advancing at a quick pace, you never know what might be available to meet your needs!
