Affordable Wines For The Frugal Sophisticate

Those who know me know that i love my food and wine. Being able to locate a cheap bottle (cheap being defined as under $15) without traveling too far is my forte. Contrary to popular belief, the key is making sure the wine is very drinkable on its own, not the cost at the counter. I’ve been a frugal chick for much of my adult hood, and finding new bottles at a low price point has been easy. Trust me, I’ve spent well over $40 on a bottle before and still been disappointed, so I’ve become accustomed to trying new wines that only disappoint my wallet on a way smaller level. The following are some great bottles that retail at your local grocery store for less than $15. Cupcake Chardonnay, California This wine has a rich buttery flavor (one of my favorite attributes in a chardonnay) and goes very well with a garlicky, creamy, or… [Read more]

10 Things About Us That Turn Women Off

We all know there is a plethora of things that women may like about men that they cannot do without. Most of the characteristics on this list are according to their personal likes and dislikes, so it’s hard to come up with a list of general things that women would look for in a man. However, when it comes to things that we do not want in a man, there are certain turn offs that most women count as a “minus” to your total package.  Behold the Top Ten list of women’s turn offs. 1. A Jacked Up Grill There are several men in this world who look much better before they speak. They usually know who they are, too. You know, that man who hardly smiles with his mouth open and when forced into laughter he visibly tries to keep his mouth closed.  He could have a great personality and an awesome body, but… [Read more]

10 Annoying Things About Co-Workers

There are always people at work who you have to deal with on a daily basis and simply loathe the time spent with them. Because it’s your work place, you must keep the peace and act as if they matter until they are out of your space.  Here’s my list of the top ten annoying co-workers. Dog Talk Hear this dog lovers – not everyone cares about your dogs and the cute way he jumps in the pool with you when you are trying to relax. Truth be told, I think it’s kind of gross to be in any body of water with an animal (or the bed for that matter). Unless the person on the other side of the conversation is a known dog lover as well, keep your dog comments to yourself. Business meets Personal When you are at work, that’s the only mode you need to be in. Bringing personal problems into… [Read more]

Casey Anthony is Not Guilty

I lived in Orlando during the frenzy of media looking for little Caylee Anthony in July 2008.  I cussed at my TV when they would break into the Young and the Restless for updates on the fact that they did not find her. I watched Nancy Grace for the first time in my life since it appeared that she was the only person who dug deeper into why Casey Anthony would wait 31 days to let someone know her daughter was missing. As the months went on, I became very familiar with the case and its intricacies surrounding the whole dysfunction that was the Anthony family. The lying, the stealing, the incest, the abuse, a missing baby daddy, and the little innocent cutie pie placed in the middle of it.  When it came time for the trial to start at the beginning of June 2011, I made it a point to watch the live coverage… [Read more]

4 Signs That She Enjoyed The First Date

I like to think of this as a part II to the previous First Date Signs That She Will Want To See You Again. I realize that all women are different and may not follow the few examples I provided, so I decided to offer additional ways to tell she’s interested in the days after the first date. 1. She keeps in touch in a timely fashion We all know there’s the age old “wait a few days before you call” rule that people sometimes use after that first date, so you first must understand that there is a fine line between an uninterested woman and a woman not wanting to seem desperate. The way you will know is in her timeliness of returned communication. You call and she returns it within 24 hrs. You text and she responds soon enough for it to be a conversation. If she is feeling you she will be… [Read more]

Maximize Your Benefits

From the day that we step foot into our sophomore, junior and senior year of high school, most of the adults around us start telling us how important it is to get into college so that we can get that job with “good” benefits. It’s almost as if the benefits are the goal, not just the good job. However, more often than not, when the goal is reached, a lot of people make the mistake where they do not take the time to figure out what their benefits packages have to offer until they need them.  Because I happen to work in the benefits industry, I see first hand the impact that not knowing your benefits can have on your pockets. The following are certain questions that need to be asked and information that should be gathered prior to the day that you need them in order for you to maximize the benefits you are… [Read more]

Why Mommy and Daddy Broke Up…

Talking To Your Child About What Happened… Whether you were with your child’s mother/father for long enough for the kid to remember, or if it was something your kid never experienced, the day will always come where they want to know what happened between the two of you.  Let’s face it, more often than not, the subject leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the one who was left, disrespected, found the other in bed with someone else, etc.  Unfortunately, it’s hard to get over the issues due to the fact that you are never truly free of that person and are constantly reminded of them in the eyes, nose, or voice of the little person you both created.  When the time comes keep these pieces of advice in mind, as they will help to ensure that what happened does nothing to change the view of you in your child’s eyes. Use The Don’t… [Read more]
