People always say that its only when pet peeves and annoyance comes into play that you realize how much you are willing to put up with when it comes to dating. Once you know how much you are willing to put up with (and what you definitely are not) you tend to migrate towards and settle with someone who fits that mold. Then there’s that woman.  We all know who she is. The one who for whatever reason makes her issues the sole controller of her emotions when she meets someone and gets close to a real relationship.  It almost seems that she is more comfortable when she is getting screwed over, doesn’t it? I have known women in the past who have put up with a lot of wrongdoing and they truly didn’t deserve it.  Makes me think that nice girls really do finish last.  It’s like when… [Read more]

We all know that girl who has a kid or kids and who has not owned up to the sacrifice that comes with putting someone else’s life before hers.  She is the one who is still living her life the same as it was prior to her becoming pregnant. This girl gives off a “babysitter” feel and not a “child rearing” feel. Consequences of the child’s future do not enter her mind, usually because she was either never taught to care for a child (only to “watch” the child) and never had a positive role model on how to do so. I want to give advice to this woman. Not because I look down on her, but because I think she needs to wake up in order to reap the many rewards of motherhood.  If you are a woman who leaves your kid with your mother on… [Read more]

Alright boys, listen up… I’m about to give you two ways to keep your lady satisfied without very much effort: One: Every phone call/text deserves a response. It doesn’t matter if you’re a workaholic, have multiple jobs, or are knee deep in the entertainment industry, we need a response. If you have time to eat and drive to where you are going, you should have time to respond to her. A ten second message to let her know that it will be a while before you can engage her in an actual real conversation will get you a lot further than just blowing her off and apologizing about it a couple days later.  Even if it’s a quick call on your way to a meeting, putting in those few seconds will buy you hours of time to yourself. Example: All it takes is a quick “oh, hey, just wanted to let you know that I… [Read more]

Contrary to popular belief, it is very easy for a man to tell on the first date if he will be able to get a second. Most of the signs are there, but men do not see them right away. Several times I have walked down memory lane with my current boyfriend, discussing our first date and how he had no idea that I was looking to be more than friends. It can be difficult for a man to figure it out solely from the body language or the way she looks at him, but the signals are definitely there. If you pick up on them, there will be no guessing as to whether or not she will want to see you again. 1. She keeps the conversation going A bored and uninterested woman will not listen intently to your stories and she will definitely… [Read more]

Sometimes I admire women who really know what they want in their 20’s and truly wait to have kids until they are well into their 30’s. Other times, I’m glad I’ve got the experience almost completely out of the way in my early years to enjoy the later years with my man. However, there is that one thing that I cannot get past, who am I without my daughter? While we are on the verge of taking SAT’s and ACT’s, up to our necks in college applications and tours, her need to spend all of her spare time with her friends, I am left with the question of who I am. I never got a chance to experience adult things without the baby in tow or the burden of finding a baby sitter, or worse, sitting at home when a baby sitter was not available…. [Read more]

I would like to express my discontent with the men in the gym who troll for women to talk to and possibly get a number. Over the last couple of years, I have been that unfortunate chick without an Ipod or any other means of blocking out the “hey shawty” while I’m doing my thing on the treadmill. Recently I finally obtained means of personal music thinking that it would do the trick. I mean, if I am unavailable to hear your pick up line, then I shouldn’t have to worry about coming up with some sort of nice let down, right? Wrong. I am definitely an advocate for the “go to the gym to workout” club as I don’t believe the gym is either the time or place for getting numbers.  However, since there are men who know not of this rule and insist… [Read more]

“There will be days when you’ll be forced to make decisions that affect the lives of everyone you love, choices that will change you forever. You reach an age when you realize that being a man isn’t about respect or strength; it’s about being aware of all the things you touch. Children face inward, wallow in their own selfish needs. Men face outward, take action on the needs of others. I’m at that place, boys. I’m staring one of those decisions in the face and it looks back at me with historical eyes and it calls me a coward, a killer, a fraud. It wants me to crack, and run from the service of my fate like a broken boy. Today I will not do that. Today, I will be the man my father tried to be. I will make you proud.” Words spoken from… [Read more]

From the time my teenage daughter was a toddler, people have often commented on how “good” and “polite” she is when we are in public. When she comes home from a sleepover, the parents tell me she is welcome back at any time. Other parents often ask me how I raised such a great kid. I chalk it up to the fact that I made sure that my daughter and I remain close throughout the years, and she tells me she loves me daily.  Many will argue that raising a child is one of life’s most difficult tasks for those who are fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to experience it. Most have their opinion as to which stage is the hardest – newborns, terrible twos, tweens, or teenagers. My vote hands down is teenagers. They encompass all of the bad things that come with the other… [Read more]
