Spice Modern Steakhouse
326 S Park Ave
Winter Park, FL 32789
I rarely frequent a specific restaurant more than once within a two week period. However, Spice Modern Steakhouse saw my face about three times within the course of seven days. Owned by a husband and wife team since 2006, the restaurant has great food, and a fun, yet trendy, atmosphere. It is possible to enjoy an intimate dinner during the week, but there is live music Thursday through Saturday which makes a conversation at a booth somewhat difficult. They definitely make up for this flaw with the cuisine and my favorite characteristic – two happy hours daily (4pm – 7pm and 9pm – close). If you are a people watcher, there is ample seating outside that allows you to take in Winter Park’s nightlife right alongside the Park Avenue strip.
In what I assume is a strategy, the portions are larger than the average gourmet serving, but small enough so that you are guaranteed to have room for dessert. I had the pleasure of trying the calamari with cilantro citrus sauce and it was very good. The cedar plank salmon with risotto and vegetables had me very satisfied. I have to say, for a bland fish like salmon, all of my taste buds were stimulated with every bite. I also recommend the crème brulee – the gentle caramelized top had a perfectly light candy crunch. To top off the great meal, there was a free bottle of wine, courtesy for the purchase of two entrees of at least $20 during happy hour. Spice Modern Steakhouse is also known for Saturday and Sunday Brunch until 2pm, at which time last night’s happy hour turns into this morning’s two for one mimosas and bloody mary’s.
Great food no matter what time of day it is. Attentive staff who work hard to make sure you have all that you need to enjoy your time. Cocktails made right. Bragging rights for winning the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the past three years. What more can you ask for?
