Question: How much time do you spend in front of a computer these days my dear denizens? I would wager that you, like myself spend about 70% of your time staring into the one-eyed monster (2-eyed for you dual screen IT nerds) all day. When you think about this please factor in smart phones, tablets and that family of pocket-PC too. Scary isn’t it? I thought about it the other day and I spend about 90% of my life in front of a computer of some sort. While I don’t feel obligated to using a computer, I do willingly find one to do the things I love throughout the day. I wake up and check my email, drive in to the day job to stare at dual monitors for 8 hrs, stare at my Blackberry when riding to lunch and then go home to stare… [Read more]

Hello my fellow IT nerds; one thing that I have noticed about our profession besides the loud discussions on MMORPG’s and the war of the cell phone companies is that we can be some of the most sloppy, uncoordinated dressers in the building. While I chalk this up to our attention being paid to other things that we deem important, it is still something that can be remedied… if you want to attract the attention of the new girl who you are instant messaging your buddies about behind her back… it can be as simple as taking time to adjust your wardrobe – you know, the trivial things! Let us start by discussing money… You make over $50,000 a year, you do not spend much of it (outside of video games and random hobbies) so you are naturally a “saver” that doesn’t spend too much… [Read more]

To the average man it seems as if women want 150% of our attention, all the time… they want us to play on their time, in their stadium, in their city. When asked “what must a man do for a woman to respect our personal guy time?” The answer is always “make time for her”, but how much time is enough time? What about the chick with nothing going on, who will keep you on the couch watching crap TV for hours if you let her? Men don’t find that fun, interesting or remotely desirable – but we feel we have to, or the woman will leave. Sound like hell? Well gamers, loners and forever-aloners, I offer some solutions to your woes with the boring, seemingly demanding woman in your life who always has something to say when you’re enjoying your thing. What’s Her Issue… [Read more]

One of our Lady Dragons brought up the subject of dating a blogger to me and I thought that it would be best to discuss it in an article as opposed to Twitter where it originated. She had read on another space that us opinionated writer types were a bit of a bear to date for one reason or another which gave me pause but I thought about it and there may be some validity in that claim. The main issue of course is jealousy (female readers can be verbal about their appreciation of you, and some girlfriends don’t like it). The other thing is time, many of us are workaholics who write whenever we aren’t working. Then you have the guys that write about their lives – whoa, now that should give any woman a complex. Good looking male bloggers who reveal themselves at… [Read more]

Being that I have gotten this question a number of times from people who see me tap tapping away on the Berry, I thought it would be useful to detail my favorite apps and what I use them for. The primary use of my Blackberry besides ignoring calls is to text, blog and do accounting. As a small business owner I do find myself bouncing around quite a bit and I need my Blackberry to look at websites, expedite orders and check my accounts for any funny business. I have found my job to be easy with this phone and the following apps have been an enormous help in my day to day activity. 1. Bank of America (Free) – This is my bank (boo and hiss all you want) but for all their sucking, their app is actually pretty damn good. Not only does… [Read more]

Despite what movies and books depict, you are not guaranteed to do better than the cool people in your High School just because you were a social reject. The one part of being the social reject that people tend to ignore in movies (and in life) is that the social reject that becomes the baller has a few necessary components to achieve success. Being intelligent is great but do you have drive with that intelligence? Do you finish what you start? Are you the type to stay up nights obsessing over your business plan, your invention, and your future money maker? Many of you don’t but you assume that being the outcast in high school has afforded you the privilege of attending the class reunion in 10 years to laugh at all the hecklers who are now clerks at the local mall or mopping floors… [Read more]

If opinions are like assholes then this one needs about 2 rolls of toilet paper, a colonoscopy and a  manual on personal hygiene. In this day and age if you eject this insult at a potential mate as if you expect to get confirmation, chances are you will be labeled a douchebag and dumped promptly. Many of you reading have this opinion and I will not turn this into a “let me play my video games in peace” article, instead I am going to break down why this argument won’t win you any favors from both men and women. Gaming is no longer a genre, it’s a medium We have television, computers, video games , smart phones and multimedia devices. On my Playstation 3 I am either watching a Blu-Ray movie, Netflix, the NFL package or playing Assassin’s Creed (for now). For people who… [Read more]

My first “smart phone” was a Blackberry. I came into the game late bypassing the large, full qwerty pad monstrosities (that business people carried like a badge of honor) and started my fellowship with a smaller phone that lumped the letters together. Today, I own the newest brand of T-Mobile’s family of Blackberries, it’s small, has a full qwerty keyboard and a touch pad for all the sliding that I need on apps. The phone is great for my needs; I answer my client’s emails, write hundreds of articles and tweet nonsense whenever I have a break. Little did I know that loving this phone had put me on the uncool team of a popularity contest. The iPhone craze of yesteryear ushered in a cult following to Apple that has caused the geeks of the world to look down on the company. To them IPhones… [Read more]
