Jared Leto with hairbun pointing

Editor’s note: This is a lighthearted post made to address the current trend of men wearing “buns” and is not meant to harass or offend. If you have a man-bun and are already offended (I know you are), you may want to keep it moving. All credit for this post goes to Jordan the barber of properbarbershop.com. If you need that top-knot chopped off properly, holler at your man. As a veteran esthetics professional, I feel it my duty to respond to this trend. Gentlemen, it is my opinion that said hairstyle looks amazing on exactly 1% of the male population. Exemptions include actual Samurai and people of Asian or Pacific Island decent.. Last exemption goes to dudes who really and truly, don’t give a fuck. If you have been paid for being really, really, ridiculously good looking or, you’re auditioning to be in… [Read more]

Beautiful woman taking a breath

Stop for a second, and notice your breathing. Is it from your chest or is it from deep within your belly? You might discover you are taking shallow breaths from your chest. So what’s the big deal you may ask? Well…ask someone one who is asthmatic or has COPD. Breathing is life. It’s the thing you need and depend on! Breathing is the only body function that is both voluntary (you can control its speed and even stop it momentarily), and involuntary (automatic – you don’t have to do anything to make it happen). But typically, we are not taught the proper way to breathe and control this life force. Did you know that a baby does not breathe while it is in the womb? That the mother breathes for the fetus who gets essential oxygen through the umbilical cord? Yes! And the normal rate… [Read more]

Beautiful woman takes off mask

When people come together anonymously and call themselves a community it can become very confusing as to who is genuine. We see it on social media more than anything else but forums has always been the king of this activity. The hive mind is built by the most vocal members and before long the lesser drones begin to echo their mantra as if it was fact. This happens on any forum that you visit across the internet, even within a blog community–through the comment section. You get a handful of opinionated regulars that speak on a subject to the point where they become assumed authorities on it. People get used to their answers and before long they develop a following. Why is it so easy for us to do this? Us of course being the vocal, frequent-visiting, knowers of everything. I’ve seen people on forums spin… [Read more]

Does it seem like you can never catch a break? That every time you take 3 steps forward you wind up being thrown 5 steps back? Well here is a story about winning against all odds. Many of us might have seen the Disney movie “Secretariat” a while ago, and I caught the tail end on TV a few weeks ago. It left me feeling so inspired about what it takes to win.  This is the story of a beautiful 2-year old chestnut horse (lovingly nick-named “Big red” by his groom), who as a 1-to-10 favorite, came from the rear to win two important derbies by two and a half lengths in under 2 minutes. However, his true worth was to be tested in the Belmont Stakes (1973), a 1.5 mile run, which would be longest race of his career. Well it was believed that… [Read more]

There have been plenty of times in the last few years when I’ve seen the family members of friends getting over on them in one way or another. Some family members use their loved ones to get loans (that they don’t intend on ever repaying), to get free room and board, and to get limitless help–when life knocks them down. While it’s noble to offer help without want of payment to a family member, we all know that there are some people who will cross the line and take it to another level beyond charity. Let’s talk about bad friends and family members, and why we cannot treat everyone the same based on relationship ties. To the users and abusers, life isn’t about one hand washes the other, it’s about squeezing. If you have it to give, they have the hands to take, and they… [Read more]

Imagine that you come home from a long, stressful day of work, and you walk inside of your house to find that you’re in The Twilight Zone. Your vision blurs, you lose your balance, and you end up in a long hallway lined with doors. The hallway seems to go on forever, and when you try one of the doors it opens up to a large 60″ television, an assortment of game systems–with games–and the cushiest seat known to man. Sounds awesome, right? The next door has a new PC, fast internet, and your Facebook profile is beckoning you to hop on and engage with friends and family. You close the door fast (that Facebook crack rock is mean!), now understanding that the doors all lead to comfortable, fun things, but you want to know what’s at the end of the hall. As you start down the hall peeking into… [Read more]

Alright boys, listen up… I’m about to give you two ways to keep your lady satisfied without very much effort: One: Every phone call/text deserves a response. It doesn’t matter if you’re a workaholic, have multiple jobs, or are knee deep in the entertainment industry, we need a response. If you have time to eat and drive to where you are going, you should have time to respond to her. A ten second message to let her know that it will be a while before you can engage her in an actual real conversation will get you a lot further than just blowing her off and apologizing about it a couple days later.  Even if it’s a quick call on your way to a meeting, putting in those few seconds will buy you hours of time to yourself. Example: All it takes is a quick “oh, hey, just wanted to let you know that I… [Read more]

It’s Friday, so permit me to create a post about nothing. If you’ve been a regular visitor to the Hall—which I highly doubt being that the majority of our traffic stumbles in from Google, brand new—you will have noticed that posts have been sporadic at best due to an unannounced break by yours truly. I have an excuse though (a good one too). See, what had happened was, since I wrote so much here, people kept asking me “Greg, how come you haven’t written a book?” Truth is I had written a number of books, BUT, I was just the write em and throw em in the filing cabinet sort of person. This was until Cherry Tigris put me on, on how to rock this… and I took her advice and got bitten by the bug. Matter of fact, I just kept writing books and not… [Read more]
