bald woman holding head

“Ugly is a field without grass, a plant without leaves, or a head without hair.”
Ovid “The Silent Woman” The meaning of being bald as a woman: “What does it mean to be bald as a woman?” One possible sentiment might be “Oh, she is beautiful!” and as exampled in the following quote, typically this comment is reserved for the woman who lost her crown to the fight against cancer: “A bald woman on chemo is beautiful.” Yes, being bald as a woman often represent sickness, or maybe just getting old–er. Then there are those of you who are more forward thinkers and can rattle off the names of beautiful iconic bald-headed women in the entertainment industry who are not cancer survivors such as Amber Rose, Megan Fox, and Erykah Badu. Many of whom a shaved head is a matter of style or stance and choice… [Read more]

Recently, I sat watching one of Tyler Perry’s older plays on DVD with a girlfriend of mine. This particular play starred two brothers who, by general female standards, would be considered “hot.” One of them was actor Christian Keyes; the other, actor/model Ryan Gentles. Almost every time a particular scene in the play involved Christian Keyes, my girlfriend would bite her lips and say to me “Ooooo girl, he is fine! He can get it!” Even my Mom, who was visiting for the weekend, passed by the TV, took a look at him and said “Now that’s a handsome young man!” As my Mom and friend fawned over Mr. Keyes, my thoughts drifted off in another direction, and pretty soon I wasn’t paying attention to the play any more. I began to think about my preferences when it came to a man’s physical appearance, and… [Read more]

Maybe I’m odd, but I can honestly say I have never looked at another woman and wanted to copy or steal her look. Sure, I see women from time to time and give them a mental thumbs-up for on-point fashion sense, but I’ve never wanted to take a picture so I can transform myself into a carbon copy of any of those women.  When I express this to my female relatives and friends, they tend to look at me with slightly raised eyebrows. They think I’m not telling the truth. I hear things like “Come on, Dani…you mean to tell me you’ve never ripped off someone’s look?” And because of this cliché response that I get from them, I’ve come to realize that it is a common and prevalent thing for women to imitate each other’s appearance/style. Despite it being a common occurrence, I still… [Read more]

The following list is a number of things that the average person does, or tends to do, or strives to do to fit into the world of normalcy. When people defy the odds by choosing not to abide by this list and live by a list of their own it is not uncommon for their friends and family to assume that they’re crazy. At the same time the people who strive to be different aren’t very friendly to those who play it normal either. Can weirdos and normals ever get along!? Take a look at the following list and see how close you are to either being a good, normal citizen, or a rebel without a cause. Once you have decided which side of the fence you fall on, think about how you feel about the other side. The list will probably offend you because… [Read more]

Let me preface this piece by saying that I am a man and I am prone to objectify a beautiful woman as much as any other guy. I do not write under the guise of some reformed, feminist, eunuch, trying to convince readers that I am “above” male behavior. So know that I write these observances not as an outsider per se but more like a person that wishes to understand. I can tell you that I have been blown away by the amount of men that sweat any new girl that starts working in an office. The only criteria that a woman needs to meet for this to happen, is that she must look young, and appear naïve. Look too good, like so good that men are all over you even outside of the office and the opposite tends to happen. Guys will be… [Read more]

If you are a modern gentleman, one of the things that you will stay on top of is your personal appearance and this extends from looks to your living environment. Mess and clutter has been a stereotype of men that goes back a long ways; it reasons that men’s carefree attitude towards life leads us to becoming slobs in need of a woman to help us clean up. Knowing more than a few women that are slobs along with men that keep their pad together, this stereotype is false but many people do struggle with keeping their homes in order. What can you do? Well the number one thing to keep in mind when taking on the discipline of cleaning up, is that it is always better to do things “right now” rather than “later on”. When you wake up, spread your bed “right now”…. [Read more]

Many women seek money in their mates while enjoying the luxuries of a modern society of gender equality. Men on the other hand have not fully evolved into this and still find it necessary to provide for their wives as well as themselves. Women in the dating world use buzzwords and codes when describing a man of money. Code that can be deciphered through words like: “I want a man that is ambitious” or “I want a man with a degree and goals”. All of this translates into their want for a man of high salary. Appearances may die over time but a man’s desire for appearances doesn’t  Wealth and riches comes and goes but a woman’s desire for shiny things lasts a lifetime. With that said, why is it that society calls men superficial for seeking beauty yet calls women “smart” for seeking a wealthy… [Read more]

There is nothing like a man that is well put together and smells good. Appearances are not everything but they are all you have before you actually get to know someone. Personally, I would entertain a guy that is not my type if he is well groomed. And I don’t mean those divo types that are high maintenance males. Give me a man’s man that pays attention to the details. Things like a clean cut face, neatly maintained hair (shaved, dreads, whatever, key word NEAT), clean nails (yes, that matters), and smelling good will get you points with me. Especially the smelling good part. If nothing else it will hold my attention long enough to hear you out. Certain scents I will forever love on most men. I call them my panty droppers. Not every scent works for everybody, something about body chemistry changes the… [Read more]
