Well as we all know men rarely if ever work out their legs in a gym – it’s just too hard and painful. Hell, I haven’t been able to walk for the past 5 days dues to going absolutely ape on some front squats (hence this article). Legs hurt if you do them correctly, they hurt like hell and they are such a big muscle group that the pain is absolutely insane. Most guys shy away from a squat rack due to: Not being comfortable with balancing the weight. Knowing that they won’t be able to lift a lot due to not being used to working their legs. The uncomfortable pain that follows a real leg workout. Feeling as if they don’t have to, due to the fact that humans walk and run a lot outside of the gym. Of course each and every one of these excuses is extremely ridiculous but when we do… [Read more]

Back in the day weight-lifters looked like crazy people to a population of Hippies that had become accustomed to guys with skinny arms and slender builds. To see an Arnold Schwarzenegger roll up into the mix and take a hit off their joint probably resulted in stares of wonder. During most of the 80s and early 90s bodybuilding exploded and people became desensitized to the nasty neon tank-tops, wrestling shoes and parachute, pajama pants that those freaks wore. Now in the late 2000′s after the steroid witch-hunt had taken all the victims that it could afford and skinny jeans are back in effect, being a muscular freak is not so special anymore. I can get absolutely jacked and I would not receive that much more stares than if I decided to become emaciated and get my Calvin Klein model on. Still the world may have changed but my mind didn’t, I still get offended when… [Read more]

When you enter a fitness lifestyle aside from the hardships of climbing the physical mountain no-one ever warns you about the ignorant questions and assumptions people will place on you throughout your life. People will make up their face and ask you “what’s that” when they see your protein shake or tuna and they will try their best to push bad, fatty garbage unto your plate in some sort of twisted mission to win you back amongst their kind. Recently a friend of mine who has just started out on the Road of Kings (bodybuilding path) told me about an elaborate dinner at a restaurant her friend had invited her to. Knowing my friend to be a Foodie of the worst kind (the must eat everything kind), I had to ask whether or not she had the dessert. She had been struggling with weight for a few months prior due to blowing off the diet… [Read more]

Diet – Contrary to popular belief does not mean “eat to lose weight”. What a diet is, is a daily meal plan for people who wish to keep their eating habits in check to get results whether in gains or loss. For body building, there are three extreme phases of dieting that can be followed to get your desired results… The three phases are: Bulking, Cutting and Maintenance. For each of these categories, a certain formula is adapted before making a meal plan, this is weighed in caloric intake. Bulking: 20 x Bodyweight • Maintenance: 16 x Bodyweight • Cutting: 12 x Bodyweight After adapting this formula and then calculating your plan for whichever phase you are in, we then must evaluate how many calories will come from protein, carbohydrates and fat. Protein and Carbs are multiplied by 4 to get the caloric output… Fat is multiplied by 8. In the Bulking phase, aside from… [Read more]

Well as you know diet is the supreme factor of bodybuilding and it is the difference between looking okay and looking in-shape. If a person works out alot and eats what they want, they will get some size and look pretty good but If a person diets right (ie: sticking to a plan), and workouts alot, they will turn heads. People who workout alot and are lax on the diet usually wonder how to look like the hard-body running through the mall wearing something nasty to show-off. Well the difference is that guy, as gay as he looks is probably dieting his ass off. Abs are probably the most complex part of the formula, one cannot simply “get skinny” and have a rack of abs. Doing sit-ups alone won’t get you abs. Dieting alone won’t get you abs. Doing cardio alone won’t get you abs. Like I said it’s complex, there are 4 things that… [Read more]

I never claim to be a big champion of machismo or “men’s rights” if there is any, but is 2000 really the decade of the metrosexual? Let me explain myself when I use that word, I’m not dissing every guy who gets facials, manicures, pedicures and sports a tight pink shirt with white pants. What I mean is that compared to men of the 80′s – 90′s the male character in tv shows, movies and even life have change drastically. There are subtle signs of this change, you probably haven’t noticed them but the alpha male is gone from tv. This is a fact that my gym friends and I discuss on occasion (being big, strong alpha male types that we are), the trend hasn’t hurt our love life, but it’s disturbing when you take notice. Television’s: My Fat Stupid Hubby It’s already been called out a million times but I’m doing it again. Comedies… [Read more]
