I happened upon an article that happened to hold some excerpts that hold the claim to assist in understanding the male brain. I tentatively clicked on this article, wondering what would be found within. Would there be some meaningful insights that would shape the way that I would from here on in understand men?? I would not. Dr. Eric Haseltine, author of Users Manual for the Male Brain posits a theory and then a practical application for understanding the male brain. Theory: The male brain is better at spatial tasks, such as visualizing objects in three dimensions, than verbal tasks, such as recalling words. Practical Application: Explain difficult concepts—like why it’s important to keep the house neat—in visual terms, not verbal terms. Better still, show what you mean, don’t say it. For example, illustrate the benefits of tidiness by going to the other extreme. Scatter… [Read more]

I find it very interesting that I’ve been called just about every M-word that populates the modern, angst-ridden, reading-comprehension-lacking, mainstream mindset of today… all because of my writing here. Many of these labels are opposites but come as a reaction to articles that I have penned to further the notion of true equality between the genders–while celebrating the great features that make us unique (yes it’s possible). When I take men to task I’m labeled a “mangina”, and when I take women to task I’m either a “mysoginist” or an “MRA” (not exactly offended by this one). But what’s in a label if the name-caller is missing the bigger picture that the author is presenting? To delve deeper into this name-calling business, I will point out two of my most popular articles on this site. The Curse of Being A Beautiful Woman One thing I… [Read more]

Men of the world, 2012 was not our year… not by a long shot and if we continue on in the same vein as we have been we will accelerate the demise of masculine identity in this modern society. If we are going to make resolutions then becoming better men should be one of them. What is a better man? A better man is a better version of who you are – a more confident version, one who will not let the mainstream convince you that being a man is a bad thing. A better man is a hero to boys, an icon to follow for the confused and unaware, an avatar of where we should be going. The following list of things are steps we could all take to become better men and it isn’t some hogwash textual castration disguised as a “good men… [Read more]

I absolutely HATE when people ask me "Why don’t you want any kids?"

I recently spoke with a good friend that I have been out of contact with for some time. In the first few conversations I was asked the question that irks me beyond words. “Why don’t you want any kids?” I absolutely HATE when people ask me this question because it implies that I should have kids. And Why? Why is it that only women get asked these dumb ass questions? I don’t hear of people asking men about children. Is that what women my age are supposed do? Is it because traditionally women should be the ones crazy about children? Because all humans (specifically women) need to reproduce? Well screw all that!!! I live for me and beyond other people’s expectations. Why couldn’t she have asked me about school or work? Or how about my life goals or hell ask me about my health. But… [Read more]

arguing couple

If you’ve ever tried having a civil discussion with a “strong” woman of today you will know all too well what happens when you suggest that women of a former age were a lot more feminine, lovable and supportive. We as men lose the chance to speak when we utter certain words – namely: feminine, submission, and gold digger. Any of these words will turn the conversation into an argument and you will have gone from a “man” into a “misogynist” in her mind. As a Modern Gentleman it is no longer our prerogative to tell a woman what to do and what to say. Using the word submit, obey, or “cater” will bring forth the wrath of every self-proclaimed feminist to tar and feather you into the netherworld of shame. Today’s woman will not be treated like a Betty Draper or a Margaret Schroeder…. [Read more]

disappointed black woman

It’s a fact that I am out of the dating pool, but there are times when I look at the current swimmers and notice certain patterns that make it hard for one group of people versus another. One such group are the agnostic and atheist black men. If you’ve been paying attention, you know that African American culture is very much of the church in more ways than one – especially women (nods at Tyler Perry). This isn’t to say that ALL black women are bible beaters because as a group black women are a million times more diverse than the media presents. But in the dating pool it can seem very one dimensional for a young man…  If you are anything but a Christian and you are into American black women, I am going to go out on a limb and say that it… [Read more]

ladies trolling

Internet Troll: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. (from: Wikipedia.com) Trolling can be a ton of fun (when you yourself play the part of troll), but for the clueless, emotional victims that fall for it, trolling can be frustrating and embarrassing. Having done my fair share of trolling on many online venues, I find that the game of hunter vs. the hunted is skewed so far left that it really isn’t fun anymore to sucker someone into a heated debate. If I drop some nonsense on Facebook about religion, politics, or Lolo Jones, I can get 100 simple people foaming at the mouth, ready to “speak… [Read more]

couple in a field

I was having lunch with a few of my co-workers at a sports bar when we noticed that the Quarterback from our local College team was there eating with a young woman. This was no big deal of course but when he left one of the guys asked the rest of us “did you see what that chick looked like?” and unfortunately no-one could confirm. So you know why he asked this question? It’s pretty simple actually, we all expect superstar athletes to mess with beautiful women exclusively. Talk about pressure right? I have often heard conversations by men on an athlete’s girlfriend or wife and it often takes on a different tone depending on what the woman looks like. As an example we can use Tom Brady who is married to Supermodel Gisele Bundchen; men speak of Tom as a full on stud based… [Read more]
