Are married men more qualified to give relationship advice than single men?

So I have heard this opinion more than once on blogs – usually of course from married guy or bitter single chick. While I can see some merit in the serial dater turned husband of the year giving advice, I can’t accept it as a blanket statement. Why would a guy who got married at 18-19 and has only been with his wife be a better dating coach than the guy with a book full of numbers and constant booty floating in and out of his bedroom? Look, while long-term marriage guy can tell me how to keep a woman, I wouldn’t look to him to tell me how to get her in the first place. The dating game can be pretty dynamic so advice should always be taken with a grain of salt. Still when it comes to who tells you what then consider the source, is his resume reflective of his advice or… [Read more]

Without painful rituals what defines a man of today?

There aren’t any rituals, rites of passage, memorized chants or graduation ceremony for manhood or womanhood. As men our sisters get the benefit of nature assisting their ascension through puberty, the first period and several other private things. For men we get theories, comparison checks to our forefathers and conflicting feedback on what constitutes a “man”. It is something that we never think about in detail but it has to leave many guys pondering, “am I truly a man, or am I a boy pretending at this grown-up thing”? It seems as if the blood, sweat and tears spilled by women of the past to gain equal grounds with their testosterone fueled mates, has left many men scrambling to figure out our respective “roles” in a family structure. If you think I’m making this up just observe the barbs being thrown across gender lines in 2010 by the single, middle-class, each blaming the decline of… [Read more]

Surviving Divorce and Getting Over Your Ex

I’d like to thank Frankie, Daniel and Cadillac Collins for helping me create this guide. All being stand-up guys, gentlemen and priceless friends, I can ascertain that the tips you find here will be beneficial for anyone who has a friend that is going through the harsh reality that their wife/girlfriend has moved on. Break-ups hurt men just as much as they do women, especially when the man was in love and loses her suddenly. I hope you find our guide helpful and would love to hear your stories on helping your buddies survive their newly single status. Loneliness can only be healed through fellowship The worst thing you can do as a friend is to let your damaged friend sit home and wallow in… [Read more]

Get in The Basement – Steve Harvey!

Let us welcome Steve into the basement as our first guest. My man may as well make himself comfortable too because as long as that accursed book of his keeps selling and he keeps making “appearances” he will stay void of his man card and locked away in The Basement. Crime: Starting A Black Gender War Steve’s book was the catapult that fired the first boulder in the ongoing war of the black sexes in 2010. Egging on conversation about the single, bitchy career woman and the worthless, near extinct black male, “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man” has become the de Facto rulebook for women who wish to throw assumptions at men as to what our role is. Gems such as: “Once we’ve claimed you, and you’ve returned the honor, we’re going to start bringing home the bacon. Simply put, a man who loves you will bring that money home to make… [Read more]

Shotgun Wedding? Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys have been very Naughty!

There’s been quite a bit of speculation surrounding the circumstances of the Swizz Beatz/Alicia Keys union.  Rumor has it that Alicia is a home wrecker who started off as the other woman in the marriage of Swizz and R&B singer Mashonda.  Since 2008 the couple has been seen together but has always brushed off the speculation as “working” on Alicia’s album.  It was not until earlier this month that the affair was confirmed with a 10K character tweet from Mashonda in response to what she called inconsideration on Alicia’s part. “If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did”. The public feud between the two started with Alicia’s tweet of “In love, is it better to go with the choice that is smart or the choice that has spark?”  This prompted the lengthy tweet from Mashonda giving Alicia advice such as “sparks burn people..”.  Mashonda states that Alicia… [Read more]

Being Singled Out by Married Friends?

If you are a single man who doesn’t have a good network of other single friends, I feel your pain and I know the hell that you are going through. Even if you are happily single, the stigmas, prejudices and assumptions made by your once single, now married friends is probably annoying as hell to deal with. I will catch some heat on this one but it must be said, as a single man I know for a fact that most wives will dislike me as a friend to their husbands. It is not so much what I do, but what their husband’s do in order to seem cool to me. Being that they know their husbands better than anyone else, they know that the things I do without much thought is taboo for a married man but doesn’t mean that the married man won’t try it in order to be “cool”. The other thing… [Read more]

Dating a Married Man? You Are Carrying Water in a Basket!

Is it realistic to “date” a married man? I don’t mean the dude who has moved out on his own and is just waiting for the ink to dry on his divorce papers. I mean the dude who goes home to his wife after he is through hugged up with you! And you know for the few that has “worked out”, it is like counting the number of people you personally know that have won the lottery. For me? That is zero! A friend of mine had her heart serious broken recently, because her boyfriend went on vacation with his wife!!! Get freakin’ real. You are trying to carry water in a basket! What is the purpose of asking who is she? What’s her name? Why are you still with her? Where are we going… While you are creeping? Some women see an advantage in dating a married man, because she doesn’t have to do… [Read more]

Marriage is The New Black

I recently read an article that basically stated that marriage is a dying, archaic institution, especially for Black folks.  Marriage is to partnerships what Beta-Max was to the revolutionizing of in home movie viewing.  If 30 is the new 20, as professed by Jay Z, and we all agree that 20 is hot,  then marriage is like 104 years old.  Suffice to say, it is not hot.  It is allergic to being hot. Now, as a married woman of some years (even that ever crucial 5th one), I can’t, for the life of me, understand what the problem is.  Marriage offers so many benefits, why would one try so hard to avoid it?  First off, umm… the tax break.  And please don’t mess around and throw a kid or two on top of that (only your own please), it’s like Uncle Sam is making it rain and you are the gleeful recipient.  Single Super Mama,… [Read more]
