Why Front Squats Instead of the Popular Kind?

Well as we all know men rarely if ever work out their legs in a gym – it’s just too hard and painful. Hell, I haven’t been able to walk for the past 5 days dues to going absolutely ape on some front squats (hence this article). Legs hurt if you do them correctly, they hurt like hell and they are such a big muscle group that the pain is absolutely insane. Most guys shy away from a squat rack due to: Not being comfortable with balancing the weight. Knowing that they won’t be able to lift a lot due to not being used to working their legs. The uncomfortable pain that follows a real leg workout. Feeling as if they don’t have to, due to the fact that humans walk and run a lot outside of the gym. Of course each and every one of these excuses is extremely ridiculous but when we do… [Read more]

You Don’t Deserve a Hot Woman

I know we often hear about being the alpha male, letting your beast mode personality do the talking for you, and having the mindset that any girl can be yours. I’m here to drop a little reality on the situation. You can be alpha all day long, but until you truly evaluate what you see in the mirror, you’re going to be disappointed with the chicks that are interested. Now don’t get me wrong, I strongly support the alpha personality. I know that only suckers are holding their girls purse while she shops for shoes with his credit card. That’s being a beta, and nothing kills my soul more than seeing a beta male in action. Something I think most guys neglect to realize is there’s a difference between being alpha and being attractive. These guys, and even myself a while back, get the alpha mentality and think they can score any broad in town…. [Read more]

Gym Alternatives To Beat The New Year Rush

It’s that time of year folks, you know THAT time when getting on a machine in the gym is an impossibility due to the new crowd of people trying to accomplish their “New Year’s resolution”. Chances are you may have forgotten about this fad during your routine weekly gym visits; the holidays made you cheery (and forgetful) and the warning signs (Jennifer Hudson ads) were not showing up on your television station of choice. Regardless of your expectations however the crowd is here and now your typical 45 minutes of chest on Mondays has been shifted to 1.5 hours due to having to wait on the new members cramming in badly executed exercises on every machine. January through March is the peak time for gyms to pull in new memberships; it’s a personal trainer’s dream and a gym rat’s nightmare. Nothing can fix this problem unless you can make Christmas, Thanksgiving and sugary, fatty foods… [Read more]

Curing The Unintentionally Competitive

It happens all the time in life, it doesn’t matter if it’s a competition, traffic or the gym. People see you at a certain pace and their inner competitor kicks in and they try their damndest to outdo you, sometimes at the cost of their own embarrassment. Ever stay put when a red light turns green just to see the douchebag next to you peel off in an attempt to get ahead of you? I have. People who do this intrigue me and after seeing it happen in conversation with friends, in traffic on the way to the office and in the gym when I’m trying to workout I thought I would look further into why it is that people become so competitive in everyday life. The One-Upper I have a few friends that are one-uppers. They may not even realize they are but the knowing glances that get exchanged between my other friends when… [Read more]

Not All Weightlifters Are Douchebags

Do you know what I like about your body? Said the beauty that was in my midst one adventurous night? No, why don’t you tell me, I said. You are huggable, and meaty not hard like one of those douchebags (record skips). At that moment I had a Jay-Z moment: “Hold up ma I’m dropping you back off. Weightlifter tell the end tell a friend bish”. See she caught me during a bad patch, I was injured, hadn’t been to the gym in weeks and was looking bad. Were I in my normal routine it pains me to think that she would have written me off as a douchebag. This bothers me, why are weightlifters now classified as the same animal that lives on the Jersey Shore? Look I’ve seen the bags on that show and only one of those guys is jacked, how the hell is the weightlifting community represented by them all of… [Read more]

A Great Personal Trainer in Tampa Florida

As you know The Hall promotes fitness as if there isn’t any other way to be. We provide numerous articles on working out, getting motivated and dealing with scrutiny as a workout enthusiast. One thing that has always irritated me about the gym is the unqualified and unwarranted advice given by members. Sometimes these members have on a black T-shirt with the words TRAINER in bold white letters imprinted on the back and this may fool you into believing that they are experts. It irritates me because I feel that advice best comes from someone who is not only a student of the human body but a practitioner in the art of building it. I have known Terrell Rouse for a number of years as he was a member of my gym and one of the more serious lifters (despite his young age). While guys were running their mouths and trying to play the part… [Read more]

Debunking Men’s Fear of Muscular Women

At the risk of getting no reads on this article (the ones that I write defending women seem to do the worst in regards to interest) I wanted to explore the stigmas and fears that men have for women that lift weights heavily. I don’t mean all men but rather the more vocal of our number that have relayed their disinterest and disgust when it comes to hard bodies. We can begin with the term hard body and for all of you men reading that wish to broaden your dating horizons to include the gym. I will attempt to debunk the myths that surround a lady gym-rat. Muscle on Muscle is Not Always Desired While it may make perfect sense for a male bodybuilder and his female counter-part to link up, marry and have droves of muscular babies. Many bodybuilders are just as content finding someone who loves and cares for them beyond sharing a… [Read more]

Gym Trainers Are Douchebags

Is there anything more worthless than an unqualified gym trainer? Not the guys and gals who live and eat fitness while knowing enough to get certified to train professionally but the Jerry Jackass that works at a gym and waste the time of his/her clients. If you are going to a new gym and plan to seek a trainer, don’t be afraid to ask questions about their certification. If you currently work out at a gym and you get unsolicited advice from a so-called trainer be sure to give him the 3-point look before accepting it or telling him to piss off. Greg’s 3-Point Gym Trainer Assessment. Point 1 – Does he/she look the part. I don’t mean they’re skinny or normal or “toned”, I mean does he look like someone that you would follow into a battle for a banging body. 9 times out of 10 the bullshitter will look like Trey from down… [Read more]
