There’s a lot to be said about hustling. You will find that a lot of “hustlers” brag on their ability to take a beating and “do what it takes,” but is that something to brag about? Their life is not really enviable, is it? It’s not enough to hustle, just like it’s not enough to be self-employed. – which people brag about quite a bit. Speaking from experience, a good number of people who brag about having their own thing are not doing as well as they would have you believe. Remember, entrepreneurship is a lonely journey. After several years of writing my own checks and grinding out 12 hour workdays, the idea of “being my own boss,” paled in comparison to the idea of “getting out.” I never bragged about my hustling but I know that a lot of people envied me for “setting my own… [Read more]

“Think rich. Riches begin with a state of mind with definitions of purpose, with little or no hard work” ~ Napoleon Hill Money is powerfully linked with our minds, and have the power to influence our emotions. Many of us handle money mindlessly, and before we know it, we are asking, “damn, where did my money go?!!” The sad part is, this is a recurrent event in many of our lives, but we continue to do what we have always done, and end up broke two days after payday.  Let me draw on some examples of what I mean: Have you ever caught yourself picking up the tab for dinner with friends on payday, or paying for a round of drinks with the guys knowing full well you will have to slap the bill on a near maxed out credit card? Find yourself breathing deeply in… [Read more]

Does it seem like you can never catch a break? That every time you take 3 steps forward you wind up being thrown 5 steps back? Well here is a story about winning against all odds. Many of us might have seen the Disney movie “Secretariat” a while ago, and I caught the tail end on TV a few weeks ago. It left me feeling so inspired about what it takes to win.  This is the story of a beautiful 2-year old chestnut horse (lovingly nick-named “Big red” by his groom), who as a 1-to-10 favorite, came from the rear to win two important derbies by two and a half lengths in under 2 minutes. However, his true worth was to be tested in the Belmont Stakes (1973), a 1.5 mile run, which would be longest race of his career. Well it was believed that… [Read more]

“Never let the game get ahead of you, get a better view” – Snoop So, I have a story for you and it is one that I think you can identify with because it has affected all of us in one facet of life or the other. You all have been there and with the facade of life being “fair” many of us run around in circles only to end up feeling disappointed. We listen to the people who got lucky–as they dole out advice from a place of privilege–and we think that they have it all figured out, so we copy them. Sound familiar? Well let’s get into the story. A guy (lets call him Ronnie) walks into a casino and within a few minutes, he hears one of the patrons screaming because she hit the progressive on a slot machine. A man to his left claps his… [Read more]

Men, do you have a career deal breaker when it comes to your dating? If not, why don’t you? It’s a rhetorical question really, being that I know for a fact that we still think in a traditional sense when it comes to a mate and what he/she brings to the table. There is still pressure on the male to have ambition, have a career, and have money, but as men our pressure on women still goes toward the physical, ie: stay skinny, be pretty, don’t annoy me. Why is it that we aren’t looking for our mates to have a career that is deemed “respectable”, and why aren’t we saying things like “a woman that does (insert job) is not a woman that I want to date”? It has been perfectly okay for women to proudly proclaim that they don’t date “(insert job)”, so… [Read more]

Nothing makes me feel more broke and plebeian than viral celebrity news. When you’re stuck on the ground floor, or hell even the tenth floor, you are forced to drown in it. As a writer and Social Media resident I have to take it into my nose, swish it around a bit and let it marinate before I can spit it out. We worship celebrities and for someone that can’t help but be a cynic it all looks like we’re a bunch of broke people gossiping to me. One of the newer hooks in celebrity gossip is the memes that were born from the dregs of the nerd ghetto. Memes were once a treasured secret of spaces such as 4chan and Reddit, but now everybody with a computer is snatching up photos of celebrities and typing ugly, pixelated font quotes all over them to garner… [Read more]

It’s a common thing for a group to look outside at another group–especially one it deems it’s opposite–and speak down on them in the most negative way possible. We see this happening with Christians and Atheists, nerds and “bros”, feminists and alpha males, the list goes on. One of the most unspoken rivalries that is going strong today however is that of the hustling Capitalist versus the opinionated “normal”. I really don’t know what to call the opinionated “normal”, hence the stupid title. If I was to describe this person, it would be someone deemed as chronically “normal”. It is a person who is normally married, employed with mid-level wages, or their wife/husband is, and they are good with where they are in life. This person is an unrecognized enemy of the hustler because the attacks they lobby against one another are done within the… [Read more]

If I could sum up 2013, I would say that it was a year where the old racists reminded the younger (and more liberal) generation that they won’t be leaving anytime soon. It was a year where the divide between men and women widened into a massive chasm, and it was a year that our boys were forgotten. 2013 made us focus more on Miley’s young buttocks than on the men and women in our military that are fighting and dying even now. We somehow ignored a great Medal of Honor recipient in lieu of Beyonce television 24/7/365. It was not a very good year. Did you find yourself caught up in the hype when people posted Onion articles as if they were real? Did you share a Morgan Freeman photo with the words RIP assuming it to be Nelson Mandela? Are you of the… [Read more]
