What do you say to a child that has to go to school every day when they know that they will be subjected to abuse? Do you tell them “oh you just stand up to that bully son! I will not be upset if you get suspended for fighting back!” Or do you tell him/her to go to the principal? While parenting is one of the hardest jobs ever, you cannot dismiss bullying as a growth mechanic that will teach your kid a valuable lesson about life. Whilst looking over the old journal that I kept throughout high school and the early years of college, I realized that it took the club life to instill within me the confidence to not doubt myself. Listening to some friends today who put themselves down even before engaging a female, I found passages within the journal when I was feeling very much the same way about girls that I liked. While no expert (is anybody?) I can at least share the steps it took to get past that mentality and become the pillar of confidence that I am. There is always an explanation as to why one is single (no time, demanding job, just plain old don’t want a relationship, etc), but for some reason, it’s unacceptable for pretty “nice girls”, who seem to have it going on, to not have a man in their life that they do not call “daddy”.
