rapey locker-room talk?

Though we tend to stay out of politics here at Hall of The Black Dragon, I found it prudent to address the brand new go-to excuse for predatory language–in regards to women–the now trending term of Locker-Room Talk. As someone that has played, fought, and bonded with other men in sports, martial arts, and lifting weights, it really annoys me that I am being generally lumped in with douchebags that think taking a kiss, or taking a grope is cool. Let’s be honest. Men of my age (GenX) have never been the pinnacle of Beta perfection that is pushed as ideal in this modern age. We objectify women unapologetically, we are crude, and we tend to be very stubborn about changing any of that. In a high school locker-room with other males, we tend to clown one another, when we weren’t clowning, or being clowned we talked about… [Read more]

Dear Dragon, I am an energetic individual that happens to love sex. I have been going out with a girl for almost a year now and I am the romantic type—I love to randomly bring flowers, cook dinners, take her out places, and all of the above. When we started dating, my girl was getting drunk all of the time and since we originally met at a bar we continued to go out to bars—where she would get drunk. When she drinks she drinks a lot and then becomes very sexual with me. It was amazing, we were doing it before bed, she would wake me up in the night for it…you get the picture. Recently things have changed. She has confessed to me that when she was younger she got sexually molested, so she is very uncomfortable with sex. We haven’t slept together in… [Read more]

One of the most common stereotypes that women get plagued with is the notion that complaining is happiness. Another one is that a woman is never truly happy with a man, even if he is the drama-free type that gives her the world. These stereotypes come from a root of confusion, negativity, and oversimplification when it comes to communication, or should I say lack thereof between the sexes. The very popular backlash against approaching women in public has become deafening on the web. At the same time we have another loud cry for men to take it old school and approach women to court them face-to-face. If you aren’t already shaking your head at the paradox, I would urge you to read the first two sentences of the paragraph again. Men are being asked to stay away from women in public, but at the same… [Read more]

From blaming Video Games for gun violence to blaming rappers for rape, it never ceases to amaze me how the fad of generalizing becomes so popular when it never fixes the problem at hand. Do you know what I find funny about the current assault on Hip Hop with labels such as “rape culture” (since Misogyny is no longer the popular word of the day)? I find it funny that while the implications are serious, the people making the most noise do not buy, have never bought, and will never buy the albums of the rappers that they are going in on. Look at it this way, it comes off as if they are skipping over everything else wrong with radio hip hop in order to find the few instances of alleged rape. Bear with me here rape is a brutally terrible crime but what… [Read more]

Intelligent men have time after time repeated the fact that being a woman must be hard. Of course it is. There is no doubt, and when i look at men, they have their own set of trials and tribulations but the emotional burden a woman carries for life is true insanity. Let me explain: From childhood all a girl is conditioned to do is to look pretty. She must look pretty (and feminine) so that everyone can fawn over her and like her. She is conditioned to forego rough games and to make friends with other girls. Then she  grows up and everyone is on her case: “Don’t sleep with a guy. You’ll end up pregnant.” “Don’t sleep with a man, you’ll end up hurt.” “Don’t sleep with a man because the moon will fall out of the sky!” Is it any wonder that a… [Read more]

R-Kelly did a video where he hid out in a man’s closet with a loaded gun after sleeping with his wife and America ate it up as entertainment. Rihanna kills a man who violently rapes her on her music video and the country jumps to cut her throat with “how dare you”. I have one question, is it really all about the kids or is it that she’s a chick with a gun that bothers people so much? Is it apples to oranges when I wonder why the pedobear R-Kelly is applauded for music video violence while Rihanna is getting tarred and feathered? I’m asking you parents out there because it is the same ideology of “what about the kids!” that led to over 30 bitter comments on the Axe Ball Cleaner Commercial that I posted on here back in January of 2010. Do we… [Read more]

“There is much more… than dressing funny and sweet talking prostitutes” There has been homages made and props given to Pimps in the Hip Hop industry since time immortal and people listen to it, get interested, accept it as truth and forego the research into their reality. When I see people of my culture refer to themselves as Pimps or Pimpin it makes me shake my head at the ignorance – but how can I blame them when the game is still so much of a secret? Pimps are gamers and the high profile ones have written books, done documentaries and sold us a tale that is only about 10% factual of their lives. We look and laugh at their gaudy dress,  but there is much more to a pimp than dressing funny and sweet talking prostitutes. Breaking in New Girls If you haven’t a… [Read more]

Tales of a Bouncer Series: Clubs aren’t all fun and alcohol – you have thugs, drugs and violence that comes along with it. Hall of The Black Dragon presents the accounts of a Bouncer’s weekly adventures from men who are in the life and have thrown out the lowest of the low. There was a girl at our Club that had been talking to one of the guys all night but he eventually left and she passed out at one of the tables on the V.I.P. patio outside. It was a busy night and I had my eye on her but nobody else was out there. She had either been given some drugs or she was passed out from too much alcohol but I had no clue. She was a regular at the Club (I’d never seen her like this) and her dad was a… [Read more]
