Let’s face it – the prospect of a sober St. Patrick’s Day may leave you feeling a bit out of the loop. The holiday, which is highly popular all over the world, has a reputation for being a pretty big drinking day. Let’s be clear – there’s nothing wrong with having some beers on St. Patrick’s Day. But for some, having a few beers isn’t really an option. If you’re in recovery, hoping to provide a child-friendly celebration, or simply not a drinker, it’s easy to feel left out on St. Patrick’s Day. But you don’t have to feel that way. In fact, in many ways, a sober St. Patrick’s Day is a better St. Patrick’s Day. You can focus on the true history behind the holiday It may surprise you to learn that St. Patrick’s Day isn’t really a heavy drinking holiday in many… [Read more]

They say that all we need is love but in reality all we need is someone that fits into our world that worships the same god we do, stays thin, is of a “good” height, and can broil a mean fish dinner (Afro Samurai reference ftw). Our standards can seem—for lack of a better term—ridiculous when we write them down on paper can’t they? Everyone has their flavor but many of our preferences are echoed by so many that it seems like a normal thing to demand them of people who can’t fix it. Like height! Seriously? In any event, the following list is of ten deal breakers that I have heard over the years when it comes to dating. 1. Hygiene isn’t just a greeting Get it? Like “Hi Gene”? No? Okay whatever. Ever get into a relationship with someone that you really like only to… [Read more]

What could possibly add on to the perceived “thug culture” of one of the last hyper-masculine sports in the United States? Not much, being that the casual and non-sport fans of the NFL already have the perception that the NFL is comprised of players who are: Uneducated (look at the early reactions to Richard Sherman last season) Criminal (the handful of players who have crossed the law are used to represent the whole) Rapists (Big Ben) Thugs (another term for a scary black person) Over-churched (Reggie White) Racist (Richie Incognito and Riley Cooper) (TBA) The TBA will become “homophobic” by the time we’re into the next season and it will not enhance or destroy the opinion that people have of the NFL already but it will make for a whole lot of news. Right now with Michael Sam announcing that he is gay to the… [Read more]

When the book, He’s Just Not that Into You by Greg Behrendt hit bookshelves it seemed like it was a much needed dose of reality for some ladies; giving women a glimpse of how men are really seeing you and how many men are simply turned off by certain behaviors.  While also providing women with the harsh truth that when men treat you badly and you forgive him time and again, that we are enabling their shitty treatment of women. “Don’t spend your time on and give your heart to any guy who makes you wonder about anything related to his feelings for you.” – Greg Behrendt Not getting married or not being proposed to simply will not make the world stop from turning. Finding someone that makes you happy and fits into your world the way that you need them to and you for them… [Read more]

If there is any one character in the entire Star Wars universe more disappointing to me it’s Master Yoda everyone’s beloved little Lannik. Yoda is brought across as the epitome of everything good yet as a leader he was nothing more than a fat coward who got extremely comfortable in his position as grandmaster. Men should try NOT to be like Master Yoda as opposed to emulating him for many reasons. Sure he gave great anecdotes, had inherently good intentions, but when it came time to act he chose instead to run even after his order was wiped out. A Captain always goes down with the ship, a God King rides at the forefront of the cavalry, and Samurai Lords fall on their swords rather than be disgracefully taken captive by their rivals. Even in old kung fu movies the master Abbots of the Shaolin… [Read more]

Tipping has been a controversial subject since forever hasn’t it? It brings back the very first scene of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs where Steve Buscemi’s character “Mr. Pink” vehemently defends his right to not leave a tip. But why do people behave this way when they know that the one rule for waiting staff at any restaurant is that you leave a tip in addition to your meal? Why not stay home if you’re that serious about stiffing the help? Recently a Pastor named Alois Bell was outraged when one of the employees at Applebees put her receipt on Reddit for the world to see. Please see the image to the right for the receipt in question. So angry was Alois in fact that she forgot everything that her bible taught her about forgiveness and chose to go on the war path for the waitress’s… [Read more]

disappointed black woman

It’s a fact that I am out of the dating pool, but there are times when I look at the current swimmers and notice certain patterns that make it hard for one group of people versus another. One such group are the agnostic and atheist black men. If you’ve been paying attention, you know that African American culture is very much of the church in more ways than one – especially women (nods at Tyler Perry). This isn’t to say that ALL black women are bible beaters because as a group black women are a million times more diverse than the media presents. But in the dating pool it can seem very one dimensional for a young man…  If you are anything but a Christian and you are into American black women, I am going to go out on a limb and say that it… [Read more]

lolo on the track

Today we are going to talk about the public’s reaction to religious dogma with athletes Lolo Jones and Tim Tebow as the main focus. Religion is a funny topic in today’s society as it seems to grow more and more unpopular as the years fly by. In the past when you had someone going on and on about their piety, it was praised (no pun intended) as a way that we should be living our lives. Now we have a stronger push against religious sects, often time revealing the dark, ugly side of them which is not limited to violent homophobia, intolerance, slavery, manipulation, and exploitation. Christians of today are much more quiet and reserved than the ones I had to tolerate growing up (bear with me). To speak your mind against certain things that they believed in or to argue logic against their faith… [Read more]
