I am a hardcore reader. This has been true since I was a young boy sneaking through my mother’s novels, up until now where I fly through about two books a week. Reading has never been a bother; it has been a privilege. When I first started to think about writing a book, I was going to make it an extension of the Hall, and expound upon a topic that I felt would be helpful to our young men. My aim was to write a book about confidence. I wanted to show boys how to attain it, through proven methods, and personal ones that have helped me through the years. When I got to about 30,000 words I began to do research on reader demographics, and what I found knocked the wind out of my sails. I put a stop to the book, which I… [Read more]

Finding romance is hard, many girls have found comfort in the reliable pattern that romantic comedies follow when it comes to finding love.  Generally speaking, the pattern goes as follows: there is a single girl; she’s kind of different from her other friends but endearing none the less. She is usually pining away for a guy – enter Mr. Wrong/Mr. Right Now – this guy has some kind of rugged or simple attractive quality to him that makes him generically swoon-worthy; whether that is the size of his arms, the dimples that appear when he smiles, mesmerizing eyes or if he just appears unattainable he is the guy that ladies know all too well. Whether the leading lady ever bags the guy or only dreams of landing the guy; that single girl in the audience completely understands the situation. All of this is key to… [Read more]

One cannot ask the question of whether a human can love an android without first asking “what is wrong with a human woman”? The 2 questions go hand in hand because they echo the logic that we as human beings have when someone dares to break the mold of normalcy and venture out into unfamiliar territory. Take for instance the issues we have had with race relations and interracial dating – you fall in love with a girl from group C when you are a member of group B and some of the hardcore girls from group B will begin to ask what is so wrong with them that you went out of your way for a C. See my point? To mainstream Android loving the world would beg for some logic to explain our need to even go there. In the world of Science… [Read more]

Shame on me for reading an article on marriage from the king of conservative websites, but my curiosity led me over to Fox News to read Steven Crowder’s A man’s top 5 reasons to grow up and get married. Expecting a solid piece giving new energy to the notion of marriage, I instead got an offensive piece of Beta man garbage rife with insults at any man who didn’t fit into the married club. The narrative was one of fairy-tale fantasy that directly contradicted the realistic view that intelligent married couples have been trying to present in the last few years. The pragmatic married couple who single folks respect will tell you that marriage takes work, it takes sacrifice, and the rewards may not always be worth the effort. The people who argue for marriage will tell you that for all the hard times you… [Read more]

When my best friend Phil asked his lady Bridget to marry him and she said yes, he was absolutely beaming with excitement. Come four months later though, his ear-to-ear grin had been replaced by a stiff, resolute scowl. What had happened? His sassy, quirky fiancé had been transformed into the dreaded, stereotypical bridezilla. Worse, he was bearing much of the brunt of her unrestrained crazy; if he tried to help with the planning process, he was “in the way” but if he did nothing then she deemed him “unappreciative and indifferent towards their marriage.” When the day of their wedding actually arrived, he was just as happy that there would be an end to the emotional, frantic insanity as he was to actually be marrying the woman. So, when I asked my fiancé, Amanda, to marry me two years later, I was determined to learn… [Read more]

socially awkward woman

It’s a bit sad that we cater so much to the outgoing social women that we tend to generalize and paint every woman with the same brush. While many women may have girlfriends, take pleasure in using girl power to make things harder in the dating game and comment on relationship blogs, they are not the whole. Socially awkward women are everywhere, some are beautiful physically, some are beautiful mentally, and others are just normal. We never speak to them because they shrink back into the background as props and watercolor to our animated series of life. The bold, sometimes loud girl commands attention in a room; she likes us but wants us to chase her while her socially awkward friend would love to talk to us but doesn’t know how to make it happen. As men we know it’s as simple as some eye… [Read more]

lu bu the warrior

Many people who have played Koei’s Romance of The Three Kingdoms series know well that the greatest warrior featured in ancient China was one Lü Bu, a general of Dong Zhuo’s. Playing the game would lead you to believe that Lu was an invincible, mindless brute who did everything through strength in arms but the real man was a complex, dynamic and dare I say intelligent tactician. While the romantic versions of the great warriors of Lü Bu’s time will all appear special and formidable; Lü Bu himself was battle-proven historically and won many wars that he should not have. Lü Bu was a beast; tall with massive arms and had the skills of a General, being formidable with both a bow and a spear. One of the main things that Lü Bu was respected for was his skills on horseback with the bow and… [Read more]

sad black woman

I was talking to my best friend the other day, and we came upon the subject of love and whether or not true, all-consuming-can’t-live-without-each-other, love really exists. We unanimously decided that the answer is no. As women, we are sold the fairy tale of a one true love. A man who will travel the world to get you back after he screws up. A man who will break up a wedding in order to have the woman he really truly can’t be without. He will profess his love for her to the public and make an ass of himself just to prove to her he’s willing to do anything to have her. This fantasy of so-called “true” love is the death of happiness for women, as it is unreachable and does not exist. Real relationships are based on love (not being in love), trust, understanding… [Read more]
