While I have many favorite things that I truly enjoy in this world – the sound of the goal scoring horn at a Rangers game in Madison Sq. Garden… a perfectly seared, medium-rare porterhouse steak for 2 that’s actually just for me… and the searing metallic vocals of Judas Priest front man, Rob Halford – a premium cigar paired with a deliciously brewed concoction will forever rank high on my list.  When it comes to hand rolled cigars, you could say I know my stuff. As an editor for Cigar Advisor magazine and a lover of the leaf for over 20 years, I’ve dedicated an awful lot of time to this wonderfully smoke-filled passion. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to visit cigar producing nations like Honduras and the Dominican Republic, walking the tobacco fields and touring the factories while gaining a life changing glimpse of an… [Read more]

The name Jamiroquai is synonymous with that of fast cars and funky disco grooves but they are a band that has created a sound unlike any heard out in the music industry today. With confusion to those unfamiliar with their music, people often assume that the band’s front man Jason “Jay” Kay IS Jamiroquai. Perhaps they’ve seen a few of their videos and one can easily make that assumption but the fact of the matter is that they are such an influential band musically and artistically. Jamiroquai is a derivative of the word “Jam” and the Native American Tribe “Iroquois” mixed together as one word but there is a much deeper meaning to the band’s name as they commemorate the tribe in a few of the songs from their first couple of albums. The centralized Native American theme is a representation on the subjugation of… [Read more]

In the wake of the recent terrorist assault of one man on an Elementary school there has been many serious dialogues about what to do. If your Facebook page is anything like mine you will have witnessed people arguing over gun-ownership along with others making it their mission to beat you personally over the head with their stance on it all. Throughout the dialogue I have seen it wax racial (ie: America views black serial shooters as thugs and white serial shooters as mentally disabled); I have read replies from gun owners trying (poorly) to deflect attention to healthcare (mull that one over) ; and I have seen reactionary people demand gun control. It was enough for me to want to take a break from Social Media for at least a month. One thing that crossed my mind however was a project that friend of The Hall… [Read more]

Drew Brees with family

There is no question that Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, what most people know is that he won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2009.  But, what a lot of people don’t know about Brees however is that he is what he does for other people and the community off the field.  When people think of Brees they may remember that he broke Dan Marino’s single season passing record in the 2011 season, and that he was an integral part of negotiating the new collective bargaining agreement with the NFL. Still… this is not the reason why we respect Drew Brees so much. If you think back to when he was a star in college at Purdue people always speculated that he was too short to be an effective QB in the NFL.  “Drew Brees is… [Read more]

So the Academy Awards Ship set sail, went by and was talked about for all of 10 minutes by myself and my fellows. One thing that stuck out to me in conversation with one of my buds was that sexy had an age limit with certain men. Observe this conversation: Greg: Cameron Diaz is so damn goofy at times but did you check out J-Lo’s cleavage dress? Friend: (hisses his teeth) Ya I saw her… what is she like 40 now? Greg: Around that age, but she’s still got it going on… Friend: Sure, but you know… it’s like, we’ve seen it a million times. Greg: Who her? Friend: Ya, I was looking at(insert young actress), now she was cute to me (trails off into describing other actress). That conversation is par for the course for guys; chances are you yourself have had them. It makes… [Read more]

I’ll never forget the day in High School after some big to-do about Martin Luther King (it was February, Black History Month) when I was in line for my lunch being stared at by a blonde haired girl who looked like she wanted to cry. Without warning this girl started asking me what I wanted for lunch and loading my tray up with items that I could have gotten myself, making me feel weird and uncomfortable along with the confusion that flooded my mind. I didn’t know this girl but I thought about it later (after politely telling her to leave me alone and putting back the items) and I realized that I was her chosen charity case due to the white guilt that comes along with tales of slavery, Jim Crow laws and lynching. Now I am not a veteran nor have I served… [Read more]
