What Mature Adults Play Video Games?

If opinions are like assholes then this one needs about 2 rolls of toilet paper, a colonoscopy and a  manual on personal hygiene. In this day and age if you eject this insult at a potential mate as if you expect to get confirmation, chances are you will be labeled a douchebag and dumped promptly. Many of you reading have this opinion and I will not turn this into a “let me play my video games in peace” article, instead I am going to break down why this argument won’t win you any favors from both men and women. Gaming is no longer a genre, it’s a medium We have television, computers, video games , smart phones and multimedia devices. On my Playstation 3 I am either watching a Blu-Ray movie, Netflix, the NFL package or playing Assassin’s Creed (for now). For people who assert that I am a childish bottom feeder, I have… [Read more]

Young People And The Need For Team Sports

One of my biggest arguments for team sports is the normalizing of the Superhero prospect. What do I mean by that? Well when you haven’t played team sports and your only experience with teams stem from either video games or what you see from a distance – your brain tends to romanticize the ability to go beast. See in video games when you are playing sports or even military skirmishes, you have power-ups that can be timed and used to allow one member of the team to single-handedly bring it back. When you play a team sport and you try to individualize the loss and turn on beast mode, you find that it isn’t something that you can call up at will. Only a very small amount of people can turn on the beast successfully but when you play games and watch movies you think that it takes a wink of the eye to perform… [Read more]

Reminiscing on The Good Old Days

Recently I had a flashback of sorts. I felt the breeze of the fan in my bedroom and for whatever reason it brought back memories of my childhood. I started thinking about running around the house on breezy summer days, looking out at the green grass and laying down at night with a fan blowing. I remembered playing home run derby with the neighborhood kids, mainly because we didn’t have enough people to actually play baseball. I started thinking about how carefree my life was… way back then. When I was a kid I didn’t really care about anything. In my younger years I ran around the neighborhood without restraint… I’d discover places and things and climb on them. As far as I’m concerned, those were the most carefree days that I’m aware of. Eventually as I got older I started getting more into video games and began understanding life a little better. As the years… [Read more]

Is Nerd culture the embodiment of racist, and sexist attitudes?

There seems to be this misconception that the quieter, more introverted people in society are somehow the nicest. While they may seem polite at face value or super-intelligent and innocent, there are many who are the deepest sexists, racists and homophobes. Now many of you have not known a good amount of nerds in your lifetime, when I say “a good amount” I am speaking of 10+ different people with different personalities. Your experience with nerds may be limited to a trip periodically to GameStop, your college campus and probably the internet. Still this is actually a good gauge being that nerds do vary much; you have your Sci-Fi nerds, your sports geeks, your video game nerds, anime otakus and of course your all-around nerd. Some people dabble in nerd activities but cannot truly be classified as one due to having interests and a personality that spans beyond the umbrella of the standard fit. Still… [Read more]

Gamers are done with Hollywood

Quoted from Jon on my.spill.com’s Street Fighter The Legend of Chun Li review… “FUCK movies based on video games 4 life!!! let’s face it: video games ROCK, movies based on video games BLOW damn YOU HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!” Sadly, his words echo the sentiment of nerds all over the internet… we’ve had enough. Well it goes without saying that blog after blog after blog that I visit all echo the same sentiment. Those who have seen Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li have had enough with Hollywood and Video Games. What the powers that be do not seem to grasp is that campy doesn’t work, realism doesn’t work and originality doesn’t work unless you have a writer and staff who have played the game and are passionate about it. Examples of passion overcoming budget can be seen with fan-made versions of Star Wars, video games and comic book movies on Youtube. Some of them are ugly (no budget) yes… [Read more]

Wow Rape Simulation Video Games exist?

So seriously who out there thinks this is cool? I mean thought, planning and execution was placed into this thing in order to generate profit. Profit mind you that a team obviously expected to obtain from Japanese gamers and I am guessing off-shore gamers as well. Without getting into cultural differences in respects to women, lets just consider rape. You know rape, the act of having someone violate and drive themself into an orifice without consent. If you cannot relate as a guy, just remember that dudes get raped too. I have never been raped but I don’t plan to nor do I want to… so you can imagine I don’t find it sexy in the least. I used to watch comical hentai that I felt was harmless since the sex was either used as a weapon or the rapists were basically plants, demons or animals. I would pop in La Blue Girl with my friends and watch Nin… [Read more]

Hollywood Please Leave Anime Alone

Dear Hollywood, please step away from our video games and anime. It is quite obvious that you cannot transition animated stories into live action properly, regardless of the success that was The Dark Knight and Iron Man. What seems to have been an exploitation of the nerdy sub-culture has gone a bit too far now and I would like for you to back off. I was more than happy back when your depictions of us nerds were glasses wearing, bad postured, asexual losers rather than take our sub-culture seriously and try to resell things we love in a cheap live-action package. With movies on the horizon like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (when did she become legendary?), Dragon Ball: Evolution (google this abortion and count the cries of disappointment), an M.Knight version of Avatar The Last Air Bender and a whole host of other potential stinkers scheduled for release, you must understand my annoyance. Let… [Read more]
