Everyone wants it – that nicely toned, slender, and sexy body, but not everyone knows how to obtain it. With the right amount and types of exercises, combined with a healthy eating plan that suits your specific eating style (vegan, vegetarian, plant-based, raw food, etc.), you can definitely achieve a fit body. A fit body is one that not only “looks” good, but that is very healthy on the inside as well.

Strength Training

The best exercise to increase your strength, slenderize your body, and increase your metabolism is weight-bearing exercises. There are several choices to tone your muscles, which create that sleek and sexy body. The most common tools in strength training are free weights, weight machines, strength bands, and kettlebells.

No matter which tool you decide to use to build and tone your muscles, the important thing is consistency in training. You should perform strength training at least three times a week, for a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 60 minutes per session, depending on your fitness level.

If weight lifting is not what you are interested in, don’t despair. Yoga is a great form of strength training that uses your own body weight to sculpt your body. You may not realize it when you are practicing yoga, but a lot of strength is being developed throughout your entire body for fine sculpting.

Cardiovascular Training

If you have excess weight and body fat to lose, it is best to also include a cardiovascular workout with your strength training sessions. It is recommended that you do your cardio training in-between your strength training days. This way you can divide your time exercising easily throughout the week, which will mean more motivation from you.

Some great cardio workouts include running on a treadmill, running or walking outdoors, riding a stationary bike, or even a stair climber machine. These tools allow you to increase your heart rate, gets your blood flowing and your body moving so you can burn up those extra stores of fat. Keep your cardio workouts between 20 to 45 minutes per session. Anything more than this, and you are not receiving the full benefit of burning fat.

Some of the strength training exercises can also be used in combination as a cardio workout, such as kettlebells and even yoga. There are many large movements when working out with kettlebells that increase your heart rate to the fat burning zone, while toning your muscles at the same time. Two workouts in one – how great is that?!
