If you have excess weight and body fat to lose, it is best to also include a cardiovascular workout with your strength training sessions. It is recommended that you do your cardio training in-between your strength training days. This way you can divide your time exercising easily throughout the week, which will mean more motivation from you.
Some great cardio workouts include running on a treadmill, running or walking outdoors, riding a stationary bike, or even a stair climber machine. These tools allow you to increase your heart rate, gets your blood flowing and your body moving so you can burn up those extra stores of fat. Keep your cardio workouts between 20 to 45 minutes per session. Anything more than this, and you are not receiving the full benefit of burning fat.
Some of the strength training exercises can also be used in combination as a cardio workout, such as kettlebells and even yoga. There are many large movements when working out with kettlebells that increase your heart rate to the fat burning zone, while toning your muscles at the same time.
